Overview

The Immunomediated Diseases and Innovative Therapies is an heterogeneous area composed by both translational and clinical research groups which cover fields such as immunology, respiratory and systemic diseases, pharmacology, molecular diagnosis, heart repair and advanced therapies. Its main strength derives precisely from this heterogeneity and the complementarity of the scientific interests and expertise of the different groups, many of which are currently joining efforts and synergizing in a variety of collaborative research projects.

Specifically, within the research in asthma the group is working in the MEGA project aimed at increasing knowledge about the molecular mechanisms of asthma. In the area of occupational and environmental diseases there are various active projects such as the study of interaction between air pollution and asthma. Regarding lung transplant, we are developing several projects linked to our lung transplant biobank. Using the biobank samples we are going to study the microbiome of lung transplant patients and the role of cell free DNA. In the research line of sleep apnea and ventilation, projects include several multicenter studies to find out the impact of sleep apnea on the pediatric population. Regarding COPD, the group will coordinate a multicenter project to know the effectiveness of palliative cures in the final phases of the COPD. In relation to clinical trials, in the period 2013-2017, the group has participated in 75 studies promoted by the industry. The Group has increased its participation in Phase II trials and has begun to carry out Phase I studies.
